Design and Deformation Behavior of Multi-phase Mechanical Metamaterials

Strong and tough mechanical metamaterials are highly demanded in engineering application. Nature inspired dual-phase metamaterial composites was developed examined, by employing architectured lattice materials with different properties respectively as the constituent matrix reinforcement phases. Then, phase incorporated into specific patterning. The composite were simply fabricated using additive manufacturing. From quasistatic compression tests, strength toughness could be simultaneously enhanced after addition of grains. Through simulation modeling, effects distribution, elementary architecture, parent material defects on investigated. results shown that distribution pattern affected shear bands, fracture toughness, energy dissipation during boundary slip. Meanwhile, also guide deformation mode help protect functional therein. Additionally, enhancing connection phases, dramatically improve absorption. Accordingly, designing rationale for proposed, this study provided a novel pathway multi-functional metamaterials.
